This isn't just about replacing Matt Milano. It's about who Jim Leonhard trusts to wear the green dot if Terrel Bernard misses time, which has unfortunately been the case over the past two seasons (9 games missed). Leonhard needs a competent player next to Bernard who knows his defense as well as someone ready to step up in his absence.

With offensive coordinator Joe Brady stepping into the head coaching role and the team bringing in Jim Leonhard to run the defense, the Bills are entering a transitional period that will likely reshape how the unit is built.

The 2026 offseason will be critical for reshaping the Buffalo Bills' offense, particularly with major questions surrounding the wide receiver room and now the offensive line. Brandon Beane started this process yesterday with the trade for WR D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears. March is upon us with the new league year starting in less than two weeks. Joe Brady chose experience and familiarity when selecting his Offensive Coordinator, and I am all for it. Pete Carmichael was announced as the first-year head coach's new OC on January 30th. I will be honest, I did not know who this was leading up to the announcement. I was hearing the flashy names like Davis Webb and some familiar (to me) names like Anthony Lynn and Brian Daboll (never believed this was happening).

Over the weekend, it was announced that Buffalo hired one of the hottest names in the DC market, Jim Leonhard. Leonhard spent the last two seasons with the Denver Broncos, starting as their Defensive Backs Coach and Pass Game Coordinator before being promoted to their Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Pass Game Coordinator in 2025.

The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday morning that they will promote Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady to Head Coach. The 36-year-old play caller moved from Quarterbacks Coach to interim Offensive Coordinator, to full-time Offensive Coordinator, and is now the 21st Head Coach in organization history.

Unfortunately, many will remember him for his 8-8 playoff record and for not getting to the Super Bowl. Instead, I, like many Bills fans, will remember him for taking an organization that was a running punchline and turning it into a perennial contender with a culture that made Buffalo a destination, not a punishment for NFL free agents.
